Privacy policy

How we look after the information you trust us with.

last updated: July 2026

The short version

· we only collect what we need to run our programs
· we never sell your information — ever
· photos are shared with care — tell us if you'd rather not appear
· parents can ask us anything, any time

1. What we collect

When you register for an event, volunteer, or send us a message, we may collect your name, age group, email, parent or guardian contact details, emergency contact, and dietary or allergy information for events with food. That's it — only what we need.

2. How we use it

We use your information to organise and run events safely, reply to your messages, and share program updates you’ve asked for. We never sell it, and we never use it for anything unrelated to the kampung.

in short: your details help us run events — nothing else.

3. Photos & videos

Photos and videos may be taken at events for documentation and promotion — on this site, Instagram and YouTube. Notify the organisers in advance if you or your child would prefer not to appear, and ask us any time to take an image down. We will, no questions asked.

4. Young people & parents

Much of our community is under 18, so we're extra careful. Registrations for under-18s need parent or guardian consent, and parents can contact us at any time to see, correct, or remove their child's information.

in short: parents stay in the loop, always.

5. Storage & security

Your information is stored securely and only committee members who need it can access it. We keep it only as long as we need it for the purpose it was collected, then delete it.

6. Sharing & third parties

We don't sell or trade your information. Donations run through a secure third-party payment portal, and our Instagram and YouTube pages are covered by those platforms' own policies. We'd only ever share information if the law requires it.

7. The Privacy Act

We aim to handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), and with the guidance of our parent organisation, Kampung Utara Melbourne.

8. Access, corrections & questions

Want to see what we hold, fix something, or have it removed? Email us at kumyouth@kum.org.au (to confirm) and we'll respond as soon as we can, insyaAllah.
